Toronto gets comfort woman statue
The third comfort women Korean girl statue in North America will be installed in Toronto, Canada.
According to the city of Hwaseong in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, a replica of the statue — which stands in Glendale, California, and in Southfield, Michigan — created from funds raised by the city’s citizens is headed toward the Korean Canadian Association of Metropolitan Toronto.
An opening ceremony will take place Wednesday at the association’s headquarters, the Hwaseong planning committee said.
A replica was brought to Hwaseong last year by sculpters Kim Woon-sung and Kim Seo-kyeong, who have seen their work put in front of the Japanese Embassy in Seoul.
Toronto was home to Dr. Frank W. Schofield, who witnessed the March 1 movement massacre and brought attention to it in the United States.

Canadian organizations, including women’s organizations are having. N August International conference and we would like to go to the statue for Korean Comfort as part of our Day for women’s issues. Could you please tell us the location of the statue and who we can speak wth regarding having an activity there? Thanks very much.

I am very happy that Canada has also decided to erect a comfort women statue in its soil. Japan has been given ample time to apologize for its past past wrongdoings such as this worst human trafficking in human history, but Japanese government would lie, fabricate, minimize, deny the facts instead, never willing to come to full reparations for the victims. The victim’s pain has been insurmountable, and I can not imagine how painful their lives must have been all along with not a word of justice is heard. Unfortunately, many victims passed away without seeing the justice is served, without seeing any of the statue being erected. It’s time for all nations around the world to come forward and put the justice on the pedestol for it to shine and acknowledge that it ain’t dead. I hope that more and more status are erected for the victims who passed away, alive, and for the sake of humanity winning.
