A Joseon era-style classroom has arrived at the University of Pittsburgh
November 16, 2015
By The Korea Times New York staff
A Joseon era-style Korean lecture room taken from the old educational institution Sungkyunkwan has arrived in the least likely of places — the University of Pittsburgh.
The university opened the Korean Heritage Room — to be used both as a classroom and as a promotional space for Korea-related events — this week inside its Cathedral of Learning.
According to the New York Korean Consulate General, room is located on the third floor of the cathedral.
A number of Korean architects and experts participated in the making of the room.
The 42-story cathedral was built in 1926 and contains about 30 nationality rooms, which recreate educational spaces from a range of cultures.
