Three SS501 members to return as SS301
SEOUL (Yonhap) — Three members of former five-member boy band SS501 have made a comeback recently by regrouping as “SS301,” their agency said Tuesday.
CI Entertainment said the three — Heo Young-sang, Kim Kyu-jong and Kim Hyung-joon — are presently working as the new sub-unit, releasing their teaser images.
Debuted in 2005, SS501 was one of the leading idol groups of the second generation of K-pop together with five-member boy band TVXQ.
As for the regrouping, entertainment sources said the three members cannot use the original name because their former agency DSP Media owns it.
Previously, SS501 was a five-member band that included Kim Hyun-joong and Park Jeong-min, who are both serving in the military or working at public organizations as alternative military service.
After releasing their final mini album “Destination” in May 2010, SS501 went on hiatus after its contract with DSP Media ended.
