11-year-old figure skater You Young wins 1st int’l title
(Yonhap) 11-year-old figure skating phenom You Young captured her first international title on Thursday in Austria.
You won the advanced novice girls’ competition at the Cup of Tyrol in Innsbruck with a combined score of 134.75 points after short program and free skating.
Marina Piredda of Italy was a distant second at 102.43 points.
You, who made headlines by becoming the youngest South Korean champion in January, led all skaters with 88.03 points in Thursday’s free skating. A day earlier, she also topped the field in short program with 46.72 points.
This was You’s second event outside South Korea. In her international debut last August at the Asian Trophy in Bangkok, You won the silver.
During her free skating routine, You was docked 0.50 points after falling on her landing of a triple flip, but otherwise had a clean program for the breezy victory.
