Cardinals’ Oh Seung-hwan looks shaky, issues first walk

St. Louis Cardinals’ Korean reliever Oh Seung-hwan suffered his second rough outing in three games. After not even allowing a hit or walk in his first four appearances, he has given up two earned runs on five hit over next 3 1/3 innings for a shaky 5.41 ERA and a 1.80 WHIP.

His spring ERA went up from 1.35 to 2.35 over 7 2/3 innings.

The 33-year-old all-time saves leader from Korea looked shaky in his seventh spring appearance against the Washington Nationals in Florida Thursday, even issuing his first walk of the spring. He also gave up a pair of hits as the Cardinals lost 8-2.

With the Cardinals already down 7-2, Oh took the mound to start the bottom of the eighth inning. He retired the first batter he faced, a journeyman Reed Johnson, without much of a problem, but walked Brendan Ryan to invite trouble.

His free pass of the spring ended up costing him, as Stephen Drew followed up with a double, and former Dodger Chris Heisey hit a single to add to their lead.

Oh settled down to get Clint Robinson to pop out to shortstop and Tony Campana to ground out to first, but the damage was done.
