Rangers’ Choo Shin-soo extends on-base streak to 33 with single
SEOUL, June 20 (Yonhap) — Texas Rangers’ South Korean outfielder Choo Shin-soo has extended his on-base streak to 33 games, just two shy of a career high.
Batting leadoff and playing in left field, Choo went 1-for-5 against the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, on Tuesday (local time). The Rangers took the game 4-1.
Choo has now reached base safely 33 games in a row. It’s the longest active streak in the majors this season.
Between 2012 and 2013 seasons, Choo reached base in 35 consecutive games.
Choo hit a soft grounder to second in the first inning and struck out on a checked swing in the second.
After flying out to left in the fourth, Choo kept the on-base streak alive with a single in the sixth inning.
He went down swinging in the eighth inning in his final plate appearance.
Choo entered the game ranked fifth in the American League with a .394 on-base percentage and third with 49 walks.
He also has 13 homers in 72 games this year and looks poised to break a career high of 22 homers, set in 2010 and matched in 2015 and 2017.
