Kia K3 proves excellent fuel efficiency in contest
SEOUL, Sept. 5 (Yonhap) — Kia Motors Corp.’s K3 compact proved its record fuel efficiency in a local eco-driving competition involving 200 people, the company said Wednesday.
All the contestants owned the latest iteration of the K3 with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine that is certified by the government to travel 15.2 kilometers per liter of petrol, Kia said in a statement. The official fuel efficiency rating of the K3, sold as the Forte in markets like the United States, is already on par with much smaller cars.
The winner recorded a fuel efficiency of 31.2 kilometers per liter, beating all others. The fuel economy of the top 50 drivers averaged 20.8 km/l, it said.
In the January-August period, Kia sold a total of 30,930 K3s, jumping 71 percent from 18,041 units tallied a year earlier, the company said.
