Monsta X’s latest single certified gold in Japan
SEOUL, Oct. 17 (Yonhap) — K-pop boy band Monsta X’s fourth single in Japan has been certified as gold, its agency said Wednesday.
Starship Entertainment said the single “Livin ‘It Up,” released in Friday, has sold over 100,000 copies in the country, a feat that earned the Korean group an official gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan.
It is their second such certification, following the single “Spotlight” released in January.
The Japanese association certifies albums by sales every month: gold at 100,000, platinum at 250,000, double platinum at 500,000, triple platinum at 750,000 and million for 1 million.
The seven-member act debuted in May 2015 and has slowly gained popularity in and out of the country. Earlier this year, it successfully finished its second world arena tour of 20 cities in Europe, Asia, and North and South America. It held sold-out concerts in Japan in April.
The band will drop its second full-length album titled “Are You There?” on Oct. 22.
