BLACKPINK’s Jennie to launch solo career this year
SEOUL, Oct. 18 (Yonhap) — Sensational K-pop girl group BLACKPINK’s rapper Jennie will launch her solo career this year as the first group member to do so, her management agency said Thursday.
“With a goal to start her first solo career sometime in the latter half of this year, Jennie is in the process of finalizing (her new release),” YG Entertainment said.
In her solo release, Jennie will come up with a new image that’s different from her charismatic and sometimes cute sides, according to YG.
Another BLACKPINK member, Rose, will follow Jennie in launching a solo career, YG also said, adding that the other two members also are planning to release solo works.
“The biggest strength of BLACKPINK is that the four members are as highly gifted as solo performers as they are as a group,” the agency noted.
Separately, a new version of English singer-songwriter Dua Lipa’s song “Kiss & Wake Up” featuring Jennie will be released Friday (U.S. time), YG said. The collaboration was forged at the request of the English artist.
Next month, BLACKPINK will also hold its first concert titled “BLACKPINK 2018 YOUR SEOUL X BC CARD” at the Olympic Gymnastics Arena in southern Seoul on Nov. 10-11.
