TWICE to hold Japan dome tour, a first for a K-pop girl group
SEOUL, Nov. 15 (Yonhap) — TWICE will become the first K-pop girl group to hold a tour of Japanese domes next spring, the group’s management agency said Thursday.
The nine-piece group will hold four performances, in Osaka Kyocera Dome on March 21 and Tokyo Dome on March 29-30 and Nogoya Dome on April 6, JYP Entertainment said.
Kara, now disbanded, performed at Tokyo Dome in January 2013 to become the first Korean girl group to have a concert at a Japanese dome, but TWICE is the first to tour multiple Japanese domes.
TWICE is also scheduled to appear on the Japanese national broadcaster NHK’s “Kohaku Uta Gassen,” the most popular year-end music program in the country, for the second year in a row, on Dec. 31.
It became the only K-pop act included in the lineup after hugely popular boy band BTS was excluded over a controversial T-shirt worn by member Jimin.
On Nov. 5, the girl group topped Japan’s Oricon albums chart for its latest EP “Yes or Yes.”
The band has sold more than 1.2 million copies of albums each in South Korea and Japan this year alone.
