iKon, Chungha to perform at U.S. annual music festival
K-pop stars including boy band iKon and solo artist Chungha, will perform for a K-pop showcase during the U.S. annual music festival South by Southwest (SXSW), the American event’s website showed Thursday.
“(The Korea Creative Content Agency) is back for their 7th annual SXSW Music Festival showcase,” the website said, announcing the participation of the Korean team, titled “Korea Spotlight.”
SXSW is a conglomerate of film, interactive media and music festivals and conferences held every year in mid-March in Austin, Texas.
This year’s event is set for March 8-17.
“To celebrate lucky number 7, Korea Spotlight presents another stellar lineup of Korean Showcasing Artists,” the website said. “This year’s lineup at SXSW includes YG Entertainment’s seven-member boy band iKON making their North American debut (and) former I.O.I. member turned solo star CHUNG HA.”
SM Entertainment/Scream Records super-producer Hitchhiker, avant-rock group Jambinai, hip-hop duo XXX and experimental beat maker Kirara will also be part of the invited Korean team.
The K-pop performance will take place at Austin City Limits Live at the Moody Theater on March 13 and be open to all ages, it said.
“K-Pop comes into focus at the 2019 SXSW Conference this year as well,” the festival also noted, introducing SM Entertainment general manager Chris Lee’s special session on the value of K-pop.
Including the Korean musicians, 200 acts from 30 countries will perform for the event’s music festival.
