Tottenham’s Son Heung-min nets 10th goal of season in win over Arsenal

 Son Heung-min has reached another milestone in a career full of many.

The South Korean star for Tottenham Hotspur scored a goal and set up another, helping his Premier League club past Arsenal 2-0 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on Sunday (local time).

The goal in the 13th minute was Son’s 10th goal of the Premier League season, giving him five consecutive seasons with double digits in goals. He is the third Spur to accomplish that feat, joining Robbie Keane and current teammate Harry Kane.

Son now has 13 goals in all competitions this season, having also scored three times in the UEFA Europa League. Those 13 have come in 17 appearances, putting him well on pace to shatter his career high of 21 goals scored in 47 matches in the 2016-2017 season.

Tottenham moved back to the top of the Premier League table with 24 points. Liverpool also have 24 points, but Tottenham are well ahead in goal difference, plus-14 to plus-9.

Since dropping the opener, Tottenham have gone undefeated in 10 matches, with seven wins and three draws.

Son scored a beauty to put the Spurs on the board in the 13th, as he fired one from outside the left corner of the box and stuck it into the right side of the net.

Kane, who now leads the league with 10 assists, set up that goal, and Son returned the favor in the dying moments of the first half with a nifty pass from the center of the box.

Son, who usually attributes his goals to good fortune, quipped after the match, “I can’t be humble today.”

“It was a lucky goal,” Son quickly added with a smile, in an interview clip posted by Spurs TV. “It was beautiful. This was our first chance to score. But obviously, I am happier to get three points than to score a goal like this.”

Tottenham took the North London Derby in front of 2,000 fans, as a few stadiums across the league opened back up during the coronavirus pandemic. Son said it sounded as though there were 20,000 fans in the stands.

“It was incredible. We missed them a lot, and I hope fans were missing us as well,” he said. “We were really pleased they were here for a massive game. We wanted to give them something back. Fans deserve more than three points today.”

Son said he noticed the team’s social media feed didn’t use one of his earlier goals against Arsenal in the promotion for the latest North London Derby and added, “I hope that the goal (from Sunday) could be used forever.”
