Michael Mina’s Bourbon Steak Opens at Americana
By Tae Hong
Bourbon Steak, the brand of award-winning steakhouses by chef Michael Mina, opened its Los Angeles doors at the Americana at Brand Wednesday.
The restaurant, brought to the outdoor mall by L.A.-based real estate development company Caruso Affiliated, is the fifth one nationwide.
Modern American fare is offered at Bourbon Steak L.A., from Mina’s signature dry-aged ribeye on a menu featuring all-natural, grass-fed, organic and hormone-free cuts of beef to a range of seafood dishes, desserts, specialty cocktails and seasonal entrees.
“The best meal I’ve ever had was when I ate steak at one of [Michael’s] restaurants,” Rick Caruso said. “I wanted a great steakhouse here, and we looked all around the country. We had a lot of people interested, but nobody is better than Michael Mina.”
Mina is the winner of the 2002 James Beard award for Best Chef and the head of the MINA Group, which operates 20 restaurants around the U.S. He said he hopes the new location will provide diners with a timeless steakhouse experience.
Caruso, founder and chief executive officer of Caruso Affiliated, said he’s thrilled to bring the restaurant to the Americana because the brand is consistently highly rated and because he wanted to bring the best to the community.
More than 450 bottles — curated by Wine Director Rajat Parr — are on the wine list, while other beverage selections include Japanese whisky services and a Bourbon cart. The 7,000 sq. ft. restaurant seats 171 and has live piano that plays in the bar and lounge.
Americana at Brand opened in 2008. Bourbon Steak joins a flourishing community of acclaimed restaurants that includes Din Tai Fung, Katsuya and Bar Verde by Nordstrom.
The Americana is a place to spend the day with friends and family, Caruso said. Plans to add more retailers are underway, he said.
“We have one of the most incredible food lineups of anywhere in the city,” Caruso said. “People from all over the city are going to drive to have dinner at Bourbon Steak.”
