As the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, ‘LACMA’ carries forward with a ambitious 600 million dollar redesign construction, the Project got a big boost with single largest private donation of 75 million dollars.

Elaine Wynn, who is one of the world’s top art collectors and became a museum co-chair last year, has pledged $50 million to the project. The former Univision chairman A. Jerrold Perenchio also has promised to donate $25 million. With these donations combined, LACMA’s new project has met a initial financial goal to finish the project.

LACMA announced the reconstruction project in 2013 and chose a design by the Swiss architect, Peter Zumthor.

Construction of this mega project will begin in 2018, with current four buildings being replaced by 2023 with the new building some 400,000 square feetin size. New building will be striking to say the least, with monolithic gallery space and emphasis on glass and transparency.

LA County Board of Supervisors also approved the budget of $125 million for the Project and with the donations combined, LACMA has secured at least 275 million dollars.

The newly constructed LACMA, along with the Walt Disney Concert Hall will propel the city of Los Angeles to the forefront of the national art scene.
