A star is born: N. Korean hostess at inter-Korean family reunions fascinates S. Korea
By Brian Han
Hundreds of the North and South Korean elderly are reuniting with family members for the first time in decades, but at the moment, some of focus is shifting towards a North Korean hostess at the three-day event.
Her name is Yang Yoon-mi and she has captured the fascination of South Koreans. The 18-year-old’s photos have become a trending topic among South Korean publications.
Along with many other men and women dressed up in traditional Korean garb, she is responsible for serving food and accommodating guests at the North Korean mountain resort.
This year’s reunion marks the first in over 18 months and came about as part of a deal during military negotiations in August between the two Koreas.
Although the current event will officially end on Thursday, a new group of 250 South Koreans will reunite with family from Saturday to Monday.
