AAA offers tips on saving gas
(CNS) – Automobile Club of Southern California officials today offered tips on saving gasoline.
With the average price in Los Angeles County at $4.14 per gallon for self-serve regular, its highest price since June 24, the Auto Club suggested keeping a light foot on the accelerator.
“Drive at or below the speed limit and then you want to accelerate and stop gently,” Steve Mazor of AAA said. “Imagine there is a raw egg between your foot and the gas pedal and you don’t want to break it.”
Coasting to red lights can increase mileage, he said. Other tips include getting regular oil changes, using public transit, keeping tires properly inflated, removing unneeded items from the trunk and using air conditioning less often.
Using public transportation part-time or driving to a park-and-ride lot, then taking a bus or train, can be a big gas saver, Metro spokesman Warren Morse said.
“By combining those two things you lower your stress, you save money on gas and parking and you help the environment,” Morse said.
