ABC’s ‘Fresh Off the Boat’ gathers 7.9 million viewers amid mixed expectations
February 5, 2015
ABC debuted its new comedy series “Fresh Off the Boat” Wednesday night with ratings that gave the sitcom this season’s second best comedy debut — second only to “Black-ish” — according to Nielsen Media Research from Variety.
With a 2.5/8 rating among audiences aged 18-49 for the first episode, the show gathered around 7.9 million viewers.
The second episode almost performed the same with 7.6 million viewers tuning in.
The show represents an important step in prime time television as the first to center around an Asian American family in 20 years — the last of which was Margaret Cho’s “All-American Girl,” which aired throughout 1994-95 season.
The show will move to its Tuesday time slot next week.
