Ailee set to make Japanese debut
By Chung Hyun-chae
Rising K-pop star Ailee hosted a showcase at a concert hall in Japan’s Shibuya on Monday, with the venue packed with more than 1,300 people.
The audience was picked by lottery and the event was broadcast live through USTREAM channel, a Japanese video streaming service provider. Ailee will make her official debut there next month.
Opening the stage with “Heaven,” she captivated the audience with her powerful voice and dance moves. On encore stage, Ailee sang “Heaven” in Japanese, the title song of her debut album whose music video was released through YouTube on the same day.
Major Japanese newspapers covered the event with great interest, one of which dubbed her “Asian Beyonce.” The Sankei Newspaper reported that Ailee is a “strong rookie” who made her debut in Korea in February 2012 and won the newcomer awards at the end of that year.
