ALS ice bucket challenge spreads to Korea
The ice bucket challenge has officially taken over the Internet, and Korean stars are no exception.
From current baseball icon Ryu Hyun-jin, actors Wonbin, Jo In-sung and Hyunbin to MC Yoo Jae-suk and K-pop idols like Super Junior’s Si-won, Ailee, BoA and IU, more than 100 stars from Korea have so far participated in the challenge to raise money and awareness for Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Social networking sites have become flooded with videos of people pouring buckets of ice water over their heads, challenging friends to do the same within 24 hours or donate money to the ALS Association.
The challenge has been eagerly picked up by people across the U.S., including hundreds of pop stars and even former president George W. Bush.
The ALS Association announced Friday that its donations had reached $53.3 million. Last year, it raised $2.2 million in the same time period.
Visit the association’s site for more information about donating.
