Apple Watch coming to S. Korea on June 26
By Bahk Eun-ji
Apple’s smart watch will be available in Korea, June 26, the company said Friday.
People in Italy, Mexico, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland and Taiwan will also be able to buy it from the Apple online store, the company’s retail stores and authorized resellers from that date.
It has been two months since Apple began selling the watch in nine countries, including the United States, China and Japan.
“The response to Apple Watch has surpassed our expectations in every way, and we are thrilled to bring it to more customers around the world,” Jeff Williams, Apple’s senior vice president of operations, said.
“We’re also making great progress with the backlog of Apple Watch orders, and we thank our customers for their patience.”
The watch became available for order on April 10 and demand has created a supply backlog. Many customers wanted to try on the watch at an Apple Store, but it was only available online.
However, Apple says some models will be available at retail stores. The exception is the 42 mm Apple Watch in space black stainless steel with a matching link bracelet.
Apple Watch is available in three models ― Apple Watch Sport, Apple Watch and Apple Watch Edition. The premium Edition comes in 18-carat rose gold and yellow gold and will be available only at Boon The Shop in Gangnam.
Apple said it had created thousands of apps for the Apple Watch. Users will be able to stay in touch with friends in Korea with KakaoTalk.
The pricing in Korea has yet to be revealed, but the Apple Watch sells for $549 to $1,099 in the U.S. while the Apple Watch Edition has a $10,000 price tag.
