Asian American Federation to honor two Koreans in gala
By The Korea Times New York staff
Two notable Korean Americans will be honored next month in the Asian American Federation’s annual Spirit of Asian America Gala 2015.
Grace H. Park, acting prosecutor of Union County, N.J., and Grace Lyu-Volckhausen, New York City commissioner on human rights, are two of three honorees this year.
Lyu-Volckhausen is a community activist who has advised New York leaders Governor Mario Cuomo, Mayor Edward Koch and Councilman John Liu. She helped found the Korean American League for Civic Action and is the president of the Tiger Baron Foundation.
Park is New Jersey’s first-ever Asian American county prosecutor and acts as the county’s chief law enforcement officer. She is also the county’s first female and the first minority to serve in her role.
AAF is a non-profit organization based in New York that supports philanthropy and civic action among Asian Americans in the region.
The gala will unfold inside New York City’s The Pierre on May 14.
