Avengers 2 shooting to take place in Seoul
By Park Si-soo
A sequel to Hollywood blockbuster, “The Avengers,” will be partially filmed here, its producer announced Wednesday.
The shooting of “Avengers: Age of Ultron” will take place in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province between April and May.
In a statement, Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios and producer of the film said locations for the shooting include Seoul, Johannesburg, Aosta Valley (Italy), London, England and Burbank, California.
“South Korea is the perfect location for a movie of this magnitude because it features cutting-edge technology, beautiful landscapes and spectacular architecture,” Kevin was quoted as saying in the article posted on the studio’s website. “We would especially like to thank the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) for making it possible for ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ to come to Korea.”
Culture Minister Yoo Jin-ryong was quoted in the statement as saying Korea was very excited to have the producing in Korea and hopes “this to serve as the footstep of many more opportunities yet to come.”
Park Byoung-woo, director of MCST’s film and video content industry division, said the ministry will fully support the planned shooting here.
“The studio is expected to spend more than 10 billion won ($9.37 million) during its shooting schedule in Korea. The ministry plans to reimburse up to 30 percent of its expenditure under a state-funded incentive program,” said Park. “The sequel is expected to be released in more than 100 counties and numerous audiences will be able to see beautiful Seoul and its surrounding areas through the film. Given this, it’s a nice deal.”
Rumors have it that Korean actress Kim Soo-hyun will feature in the flick. But her management agency said nothing has been decided yet.
