B1A4′s CNU starts 21-month military service
CNU of K-pop boy band B1A4 joined the armed forces Tuesday to carry out his mandatory 21-month military service.
The 28-year-old, whose real name is Shin Dong-woo, announced the news on his Instagram account earlier in the day.
“I am scheduled to join the military. … I am sorry to BANAs who must have been surprised to hear the news, but please wait and greet me when I come back as a more manly and dashing man,” he said in a hand-written letter posted online. BANA is the name of the group’s fandom.
“I will bring a lot of happy events for you BANAs when I come back after finishing my military service in a healthy and sound manner,” he said, wishing for the fans’ wellbeing during his absence.
The group’s management agency, WM Entertainment, declined to disclose the exact time and place of his enlistment, adding that “CNU himself wanted it to be a quiet event.”
B1A4 debuted in 2011 and had a series of hit songs including “Lonely.” Last year, two of the members, Jinyoung and Baro, left the band, forcing it to become a three-piece.
