Baltimore Korean school teachers learn history through paper
By The Korea Times Washington DC staff
How does paper folding sound as a method to learn history?
The Korean American Paper Cultural Foundation handed out an arrangement of colorful sheets to a group of teachers Saturday for a lecture on a history of paper folding in relation to the Korean language.
Teachers, members of the Washington Association for Korean Schools, gathered inside St. Andrew Kim Korean School in Baltimore.
While instructing the folding of a conical hat, foundation Director Han Ki-sun said the hats symbolized the three legendary founders of Korea and the harmony between the sky, ground and people.
“The conical hat has developed from even before the Goryeo dynasty in a number of forms, from those of farmers to those who practiced Buddhism,” Han said.
