BBC selects Kim Yu-na as favorite to win in Sochi
The BBC reported Thursday that it chose figure skating legend Kim Yu-na as one of 10 athletes to star at the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, despite her decision not to participate in this year’s Grand Prix as a result of her injury.
It reported that Kim is “a superstar in her own country,” and that “she is looking to end her glittering career at the age of 23 by retaining the Olympic figure skating title.”
She was selected for having won the gold medal at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, setting a new world record, and for having acquired medals at all six ISU World Figure Skating Championships. She won the gold in 2009 and 2013.
Others on the list included Japanese ski jumper Sara Takanashi, Chinese short track speed skater Wang Meng and U.S. alpine skier Lindsey Vonn.
