BTS’ album certified gold by Recording Industry Association of America
SEOUL, Nov. 22 (Yonhap) — South Korean boy band BTS has achieved gold status from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for its compilation album “Love Yourself: Answer,” its agency said Thursday.
It is the first time for any South Korean musician to get gold certification for an album, Big Hit Entertainment said.
The RIAA certifies albums gold for more than a half million certified units sales, platinum for more than 1 million, multi-platinum for 2 million and diamond for 10 million.
On top of that, the group’s single “MIC Drop” obtained platinum certification and “Idol,” the lead track of the repackaged album, received gold. Previously, “MIC Drop,” “DNA” and “Fake Love” were awarded gold in the digital single category.
The Billboard 200 chart-topper by BTS, released in August, has stayed on the chart for the 12th consecutive week by ranking 69th in the week ending Nov. 15. It also ranked second on the World Albums chart, 12th on Independent Albums, 68th on Top Album Sales and 71st on Billboard Canadian Albums.
