BTS drops music video of ‘Idol’ featuring Nicki Minaj
SEOUL, Sept. 7 (Yonhap) — K-pop boy band BTS on Friday dropped a music video of their latest song, “Idol,” featuring American rapper Nicki Minaj.
The new video updated on YouTube is an extended edition of the original version of the song’s video released two weeks earlier but has additional images of the American rapper’s performance as well as those of BTS fans covering the “Idol” choreography.
A separate version of the track featuring Nicki Minaj was released digitally two weeks earlier as the original version went public on the album “Love Yourself: Answer.”
The new music video shows Nicki Minaj rapping in a colorfully decorated sitting room, with the lyrics running in the background in Korean.
The new video also includes fresh images of the BTS members and groups of global BTS fans dancing the “Idol” choreography.
“Nicki Minaj suggested the idea of showing her English-language rap (translated) into Korean in the music video,” BTS’ management agency Big Hit Entertainment said.
The Minaj version of “Idol” debuted on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart for the week of Sept. 8 at 11th, while the album “Love Yourself: Answer” clinched the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 album chart, winning the Korean septet their second conquest of the album chart.
