BTS shares nerve-wracking experience of speaking at UN on ‘Tonight Show’

SEOUL, Sept. 26 (Yonhap) — Massively popular K-pop boy group BTS appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” a popular American television talk show, on Tuesday (local time).

At the beginning of the episode, the host Fallon showed a clip during which he and the seven members — RM, J-Hope, Jimin, Jin, Jungkook, V, and Suga — take part in the Fortnite dance challenge.

BTS’s members then shared their experience of making a historic speech to the United Nations and visiting New York as well as what they want to do next with the host.

“I was like so nervous … I’m holding up the paper. And if you see that, I was like shaking,” RM, the leader of the group, said, pointing to a photo of himself speaking at the U.N. flanked by his six fellow members.

The band became the first South Korean musical group to speak at the U.N. on Monday. They were invited to discuss their Love Myself campaign aimed at ending violence against young people in partnership with UNICEF.

Questioned what the group’s “message” is, RM replied, “It’s mainly about speaking yourself instead of letting other people speak for you. Because to truly love ourselves is important, to firstly know who I am and where I’m from and what my name is and what my voice is.”

When Fallon asked what is next for the group, mentioning that the group spoke at the U.N. and sold out tickets for its concert at Citi Field in New York in under 10 minutes, RM said, “We want to stay humble and enjoy the ride.”

Suga then sent fans into a frenzy by saying that their next goal is to go to the Grammys.

After the interview, BTS performed its latest hit “Idol” and “I’m Fine” from its latest album “Love Yourself: Answer.”

The band is scheduled to appear on the ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Wednesday.
