Businesses in Koreatown are forced to move due to redevelopment boom
As LA’s Koreatown go thru residential and commercial redevelopment boom, some Korean organizations and businesses are forced to move out of the buildings that they have occupied.
Korean organizations and businesses that will have to find a new place hopes to continue their business and minimize the inconvenience for customers. However, it is difficult to find the right amenities and place to accommodate all their needs.
Out of many Korean organizations that have been notified to evict, The National Unification Advisory Council of Los Angeles (NUAC) will have to move out their office in Wilshire Galleria building, which will be redeveloped into residential tower.
According to NUAC, their office has to move out by August from their current, office, which they occupied for almost 15 years.
Although NUAC is looking for new office, there are not many places that are able to accommodate parking with affordable rent price.
Popular ‘Jun Won Restaurant’ at the corner of the 8th Street and Catalina Avenue will closed on May 1st. Jun Won restaurant opened in 1994 and has operated their business for 22 years, with loyal client base. However, Jun Won restaurant will also has to move, as the current building will be demolished for the construction of a seven story high residential complex building.
The owner of Jun Won restaurant said the restaurant will be closed for now but they hope to find a new place on Olympic Blvd. and re-open their business in six months. In the meantime, they have purchased another korean restaurant on the 3rd and Hobart and will operate under new name.
