Tim Cha wins the 36th Baeksangbae Miju Open golf title
UC Irvine alumnus Tim Cha, 27, won the most prestigious golf tournament in the Korean American community on Thursday.
At the Champions Club at the Retreat course in Corona, Cha shot 2-under-par 70 in the second round to win the 36th Baeksangbae Miju Open presented by the Korea Times, widely known as the “Masters of Korean American community.”
Cha finished at 6-under 138 for a three-stroke victory over Jung Han-mil and James Baek to claim the green jacket.
Kang Tae-shik, 52, who played on South Korea’s 1998 Seoul Olympic soccer team, took the senior division title. He fired round-best 3-under 69 to finish at 1-under-143 to comfortably win by six strokes.
