Choi Hong-man gets knocked out in 1st round
Choi Hong-man’s comeback fight did not last very long.
Choi, 34, was knocked out by Brazil’s Carlos Toyota, 43, just 79 seconds into an open-weight mixed martial art match at Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo, Japan on Saturday. Choi (7-2, 352) was nearly a foot taller and over 160 pounds heavier than Toyota (6-3, 185), but it did not matter.
It was Choi’s first fight in almost six years.
Choi’s record fell to 2-4 and Toyota improved to 6-6.
Choi was reportedly called to the prosecutors’ office on Thursday on a charge of swindling 100 million won ($85,000), according to reports before the match. Online website afreeca TV said while broadcasting the fight that Choi had borrowed the money to buy watches for his girlfriend and himself.
