Choo sets off fireworks with 3-game home run streak
By Brian Han
Texas Rangers outfielder Choo Shin-soo launched his third home run in as many games on Wednesday signalling the possibility of another red-hot streak.
The South Korean veteran last went off in May when he hit .295 with 16 extra-base hits including six home runs and 18 RBIs.
If there’s one thing steady about Choo in 2015, it’s that he’s been consistently inconsistent.
He set a franchise record in April with a dismal .096 average after recovering from offseason ankle and elbow surgeries.
Then in June, Choo cooled off a bit with a .225 average, but his strikeout rate also dipped meaning that he’s been able to see pitches better.
The outfielder has generally been a very consistent player throughout his major league career batting just a touch below .280 with both power and speed.
This year has been more of a roller coaster and his advanced stats suggest he’s in for a regression for overall offensive performance.
But if his season stats up until this point are any indication of how the rest of the season will go, there’s a good chance Rangers fans will be seeing a lot of fireworks in July, courtesy of Choo.
Choo is batting .234 on the season with 12 home runs and 36 RBIs.
