Choo Shin-soo needs elbow surgery, is done for season
By Lee Kyutae
Texas Rangers’ Korean outfielder Choo Shin-soo will miss the remainder of the 2014 season, as he will undergo surgery to remove a bone spur from his left elbow within the next two weeks, the club announced Monday.
Choo, 32, has been a disappointment in his first year with the Rangers after signing a seven-year, $130 million contract. After getting off to a blazing start in April, his batting average had slipped all the way down to 0.242. He did hit 19 doubles and 13 home runs to score 58 an drive in 40 runs, but stole career-low three bases.
This is the fourth time Choo’s season has been cut short by injuries.
Decimated by injuries, the Rangers headed into the week 50-79, the worst record in baseball by two games.
