Choo Shin-soo’s father in custody for 3 hours for failing to comply with courts over debt settlement
Texas Rangers outfielder Choo Shin-soo’s father was taken into a Busan detention cell for three hours last Friday, Yonhap reported.
According to Busan Nambu Police Station Monday, Choo, 64, was arrested by police at his Busan apartment around 4:30 p.m. Friday for failing to comply with courts over a debt settlement.
In 2007, Choo reportedly borrowed about $500,000 from Jo, 58, and Park, 54, but did not repay them. In 2012, courts told Choo to pay them the money but he failed to do so.
In October last year, he ignored the court’s request to report his personal assets and did not answer a court summons.
Choo told police after he was taken in that he would send in an assets report and was released around 9:30 p.m.
In December 2013, his son, Choo Shin-soo signed a $130 million contract with the Rangers.
