Choo’s streak ends
By The Korea Times Los Angeles staff
Texas Rangers’ Korean outfielder Choo Shin-soo’s hitting streak came to an end on Friday night at home against the Cleveland Indians.
The 32-year-old left-handed hitter had hit safely in 14 straight games, the longest such streak in the American League this year, but just could not solve a string of his old team’s pitchers. He went 0 for 2 against the 37-year-old journeyman left-hander Bruce Chen (0-1, 12.39 ERA), and grounded out to second baseman against right-hnaders Ryan Webb (1.64) and Zach McAllister (3.13).
He had one more chance in the bottom of the ninth against the Indians’ closer Cody Allen in a non-save situation, with the Indians well ahead by five runs, but stuck out swinging to finish the day 0 for 5.
Choo’s batting average went down to .233 from 0.243, as the Rangers (15-21) fell 8-3 to the Indians (13-21).
