Cincinnati may rename park after fallen officer
The city of Cincinnati, Ohio, looks to rename a local park after a Korean American police officer who was killed on duty in June.
A proposal to rename Hyde Park to Police Officer Sonny Kim Memorial Park was submitted by Councilwoman Amy Murray to city hall.
According to Murray, the proposal will undergo a vote within the month.
City police officers and firefighters plan to raise funds for the newly named park.
On the morning of June 19, Kim responded to a 911 call about a dangerous man with a gun. When he arrived on the scene, the caller, 21-year-old Trepierre Hummons — who was later found to have told friends his wishes to die at the hands of a police officer — shot Kim.
Kim was 48 years old, a decorated 27-year veteran and father of three.
