May 6, 2014
A civilian diver who is a part of the search-and-rescue team at the scene of the ferry sinking in Korea has died, according to Yonhap.
The diver, a 53-year-old man only identified as Lee, lost consciousness during an 80-foot-deep underwater effort and was taken to a hospital in Mokpo by helicopter around 6:44 a.m. Tuesday morning in Korea.
He did not survive.
Lee was a diver with Undine Marine Industries who specialized in rescue work and engineering.
Divers’ health conditions are now being required to go through a check before diving since the incident, said South Korean Prime Minister Chung Hong-won.
