Rolling Stone picks CL as ‘artist you need to know’
Rolling Stone has selected CL, leader and rapper of the K-pop girl band 2NE1, as one of the “10 Artists You Need to Know.”
The music magazine Monday introduced CL — along with Travis Mills, Halsey and Cold Beat — dubbing her the “baddest female.” The magazine noted how CL is starting her solo career under the management of Scooter Braun, who’s clients include Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande.
CL has a debut EP out on the Mad Decent label due out this fall in the United States. Most of the information about the project is under wraps, but CL has collaborations with Skrillex, will.i.am and Diplo, the magazine reported.
CL has talked about her desire to serve as an example for other K-pop stars looking to break through globally.
“I’d want to, of course, because I am Korean and, after Psy, there are no Asian artists out here doing music,” she said. “I would love to represent Asian girls and be an example or an idol for girls.”
CL added that while that is her dream, she just wants to do something she loves which for her is music.
