Clara M. Kim deemed one of most influential Asian women in art world
A South Korean-born art curator, Clara M. Kim, was chosen as one of five most influential Asian women in the art world by Financial Times earlier this month.
Kim, 39, is based in Los Angeles and was recently chosen to lead the prestigious Spotlight section at London’s Frieze Masters this fall.
“She is adroitly straddling the commercial and museum worlds,” FT said.
She previously acted as curator of Gallery REDCAT in Los Angeles and the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis.
Now an independent curator, she helped bring Korean artists including Yang Hye-gyu, Park Chan-kyung, Choi Jung-hwa, Kim Hong-seok, Kim So-ra and Kim Bum to the world stage.
In addition to Frieze, she is also working on putting together an archive of Asian video works to be housed inside a South Korean government-funded cultural complex, according to FT.
She studied art at the University of California, Berkeley, before going on to graduate studies at the University of Chicago.
