Comfort woman statue to be installed in Chicago
July 7, 2015
Plans for the installation of a comfort woman statue in Chicago, one of a handful cropping up across the country, is underway.
According to the statue installation committee in the city, the statue — a replica of the seated young comfort woman that can be found in Glendale, Calif., and Southfield, Michigan — may go up as soon as August.
Lucy Baek, head of the committee, said the committee has so far raised $52,000. They are currently looking for a public location to put the statue, she said.
The statue is designed by Kim Woon-kyung and Kim Seo-kyung, the couple responsible for the original installation in front of the Japanese embassy in Seoul.
