Coming New York Asian Film Festival to highlight Korean women filmmakers
By Tae Hong
Pioneers and women behind the camera in South Korean film will be one of the special focuses at this year’s New York Asian Film Festival, slated to run June 26 to July 11, the Film Society of Lincoln Center and Subway Cinema announced Friday.
According to NYAFF, films produced by women: “Cart,” “Revivre,” “The President’s Last Bang,” “The Isle,” and “Waikiki Brothers,” as well as director Ahn Sang-hoon’s “Empire,” will screen at the festival.
The special focus features are presented by the Korean Cultural Service New York and the Korea Society, the festival said.
NYAFF will screen a total of 52 films from around Asia. Other special focus programs include features from Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan.
“NYAFF continues to feature ambitious pieces of realistic storytelling that delineates themes that unite, rather than isolate,” the festival said.
NYAFF will take place inside the Film Society and at SVA Theatre.
