Complaint filed against actor Um Tae-woong over alleged sexual assault
SEONGNAM, South Korea, Aug. 23 (Yonhap) — A woman has filed a complaint against actor Um Tae-woong, claiming he sexually assaulted her, police said Tuesday.
The woman in her 30s claimed he sexually assaulted her at a massage parlor in the city of Seongnam, just south of Seoul, in January.
The police said the alleged victim, who works at the massage shop, claimed, “Our shop does not offer sex. I was sexually assaulted by a male entertainer,” in the complaint that she filed with the prosecution against Um last month. Um visited the shop alone, they said.
On July 12, the woman was taken into court custody on fraud charges and three days later submitted the complaint to the prosecution while she was jailed at a detention house, according to the police.
The prosecution transferred the case to the Bundang Police Station in Seongnam on Monday.
A police official said the accuser, who works at the massage shop, has yet to be investigated.
The police will look into the details of the alleged sexual assault and determine if the claim is true.
Um’s management office Keyeast Co. said, “We have been aware of it through reports,” adding it is in the process of confirming what the scandal is all about.
Um, elder brother of actress-singer Um Jung-hwa, debuted on the silver screen in 1997 and starred in the 2003 film “Silmido” and the 2013 movie “Architecture 101.”
