DC KORUS Festival wraps up busy weekend
By The Korea Times Washington DC staff
The Plaza at Tysons Corner in Washington, D.C., saw a busy weekend as the two-day KORUS Festival unfolded under clear skies.
K-pop, traditional performances and artworks, taekwondo and food kept visitors busy, while about 50 promotional and culinary booths provided a taste of Korea.
Kim Wan-sun, South Korea’s pop queen of the 1980s, was joined by demonstration teams, the B-boy team MB crew and a roster of Korean American talents — Lee Hee-sun, Alan Z, David Yoon — in performing on stage through the festival.
Organizers also invited five Korean folk painters, or minhwa artists, to introduce their works.
Community leaders like Washington D.C. Consul General Kang Do-ho and area politicians came out to join in on the celebration.
The event was organized by the local Korean American Association. The Korea Times was one of its sponsors.
“The Korean American community plays a huge role in relations between the U.S. and South Korea,” Kang said.
