Director Jang Jin visits DC for Korean Film Festival
South Korean director Jang Jin visited Cosmos Club in Washington, D.C., Sunday to attend a dinner in his honor held by the Smithsonian Institution Freer Gallery and sponsored by the Korean Cultural Center for Korean Film Festival DC.
Jang, a noted director and playwright, has had a hand in dozens of projects since the 1990s, among them “Guns & Talks,” “Ditto,” “Welcome to Dongmakgol,” “Good Morning, President” and “Man on High Heels.”
The event drew about 100 people.
Jang called films an international language that transcends ideologies and politics to spread hope.
Former Mayor Vincent Gray, who was present at the event, pointed to an ever-increasing spread of Korean culture and said he was glad to see the film festival’s successful comeback.
The festival began May 3 and will show 17 features until June 25.
