Dodgers’ Ryu Hyun-jin out two weeks with shoulder pain
The Los Angeles Dodgers’ Korean pitcher Ryu Hyun-jin will not be able to make his scheduled start Sunday in Miami. He has been placed on the 15-day disabled list (DL) with left shoulder inflammation on Friday, retroactive to April 28.
“(The Dodgers’ manager Don) Mattingly said Ryu has shoulder inflammation. Cropped up after last start and did not improve”, according to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com. But the injury does not appear to be serious as no MRI has been scheduled.
To replace the 27-year-old starting pitcher, who was scheduled to start Sunday in Miami, the Dodgers recalled the hard-throwing reliever Jose Dominguez. He was sent down just last week, but is allowed to be recalled within the 10-day period because he replaces an injured pitcher.
Ryu and Clayton Kershaw started the team’s two season-opening games in Australia and now both are on the disabled list. Kershaw, however, is expected to return on Monday.
The Dodgers also optioned left-handed reliever Paco Rodriguez to Triple-A Albuquerque on this day. Rodriguez, called up for the Twins series, will be replaced by the 36-year-old veteran infielder Chone Figgins.
