Dr. Hong Myung-ki gives commencement address at UCLA graduation
Dr. Hong Myung-ki, director of the Bright World Foundation and noted chemist in resin and coatings, gave the commencement address during the University of California Los Angeles chemistry and biochemistry graduation ceremony Saturday.
In his speech, Hong recalled his own graduation from the institution 57 years ago and pointed to diligence, sincerity, honesty and perseverance as important elements to success.
Hong was chosen as the recipient of the 2015 UCLA Chemistry & Biochemistry Alumni Award last month.
After coming to the U.S. from South Korea as an exchange student in 1954, he founded Dura Coat Products, Inc., and became a prominent figure in the Los Angeles Korean American community through the foundation and through efforts to memorialize Dosan Ahn Chang Ho.
