EXO records K-pop’s best ranking on Billboard’s year-end chart
SEOUL (Yonhap) — South Korean boy band EXO has scored K-pop’s best-ever ranking on Billboard’s year-end chart, according to the U.S. music news service.
EXO ranked 7th on Billboard’s 2014 year-end World Album Artists chart released earlier this week, the best ranking for a K-pop artist on the chart ever, Billboard.com said on Thursday.
The K-pop girl group 2NE1 recorded K-pop’s second-best ranking, debuting at No. 9 on the same chart, it added.
In April, EXO released its second mini-album “Overdose” in both Korean and Chinese, and the album’s Korean version soared into the Billboard 200 chart at No. 126 the following month.
Meanwhile, South Korean rapper Psy had his name on various Billboard year-end charts for the third consecutive year for his 2012 mega-hit song “Gangnam Style,” according to the charts available on Billboard’s website.
He ranked 14th on the Streaming Songs chart; 15th on the Streaming Songs Artists chart; 2nd on both the Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs and Electronic Streaming Songs Artists charts; 4th on both the Rap Streaming Songs and Rap Streaming Songs Artists charts; and 46th on the Dance/Electronic Digital Songs chart.
