EXO’s Lay stays on Billboard’s main albums chart for 2nd straight week

SEOUL, Nov. 7 (Yonhap) — Lay, a Chinese member of boy band EXO, has stayed on Billboard’s main albums chart for two weeks in a row with his first solo album released in the United States, according to the chart updated on Tuesday U.S. time.

The album, “Namanana,” released on Oct. 19 and containing 22 tracks, ranked 181st on the Billboard 200. It ranked 21st upon release, the best performance by any Chinese artist.

It also topped the Billboard’s Top World Albums Chart for the second consecutive week.

The singer visited the U.S. earlier this month to promote his album, where he had interviews with U.S. media such as Billboard, People and MTV, and held a meet and greet with American fans.

The singer, whose Chinese name is Zhang Yixing, co-wrote and co-edited all the songs on the album.

Lay made his debut in 2012 in Korea as an EXO member and rose to stardom in China when his first album, “Lose Control,” released in 2016, received local music awards.

The next year, he dropped his second album, “Lay 02 Sheep,” which was also recognized as Best Album for that year at music awards hosted by Tencent Media.

He has recently focused more on his solo career and only participated in recording the Chinese version of “Tempo,” the main track off EXO’s fifth studio album, “Don’t Mess Up My Tempo,” and appearing in its music video.
