Family of Paul Lee sets up mental health foundation
By Tae Hong
A foundation to help raise awareness for mental health illness was established in the name of Paul Lee, the 19-year-old freshman at Seattle Pacific University who was killed during a campus shooting on June 5.
Lee’s family announced the Paul Lee Foundation, a nonprofit charity to raise mental illness awareness, at his memorial service on June 15, the Oregonian reported.
His father, Peter Lee, and older brother, Albert Lee, said Lee had been majoring in psychology with plans to help those struggling with mental health.
The foundation’s first project, announced on its website, will help support an intervention program for female freshmen who need mental and emotional support.
The alleged shooter, Aaron Ybarra, 26, injured two others during the shooting. He has been charged with one count of premeditated first-degree murder, three counts of attempted first-degree murder and one count of second-degree assault.
Ybarra will plead not guilty by reason of insanity, his lawyer said Monday at King County Superior Court in Seattle.
