LA’s Korean Festival coming up on Sept. 18
With the 41st Los Angeles Korean Festival coming up on Sept. 18, the festival’s foundation is in the process of finalizing details and planning for the annual celebration, its foundation said.
Held at Seoul International Park, this year’s festival is titled “Cultural Diversity: A Celebration of Hope for the Ages” and will run for four days.
An expo at the event will feature agriculture and fish flown in from Korea, as well as 280 vendor booths and promotional activities from Korean car, airline and bank businesses.
According to the L.A. Korean Festival Foundation, the opening ceremony, hosted by lee Young-don and Lee Seon-deok, will begin at 6:50 p.m., followed by performances by Park Ae-ri and Poppin’ Hyun-joon, flutist Jasmine Choi and Lee Kyung-hwa, a famed Jindo dancer.
The second day of the festival will continue with a youth dance contest called “Made in K-Town,” as well as another dance contest hosted by Mike B and featuring eight professional dance groups.
The highlight of the festival, the Korean Parade, will begin Saturday at 3 p.m. on Olympic Boulevard. After a singing competition open to the public at the park, Radio Seoul will host a youth talent show. Attendees will also see a “Hidden X Trot Super Concert” Saturday, which will run from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
K-pop girl group FLASHE will perform at the closing ceremony Sunday.
“We’re trying our best to make sure that this year’s festival is an event anyone of all ages can enjoy, and that it’s one that verifies the cooperation between the Korean community and other communities,” said Kim Joon-bae, president of the foundation. “We’ll work our hardest to prepare for the festival so that each moment of the event becomes a precious memory for attendees.”
Three parking lots will be operated by the foundation at 3670, 3450 and 3530 Wilshire Boulevard, with shuttle buses coming more frequently than they did last year, the foundation said.
